Full Story of Kargil Vijay diwas

After the Indo-pak war of 1971 was ended, There were high conflicts between two countries. As both the countries wanted  to establish their army on Siachen Glacier (A place were India-pak LOC line ends.) However conflicts on Kashmir due to separatist activists increased, due to which the Government of India and Pakistan signed the Lahore Declaration in February 1999.

The Lahore Declaration was signed for maintaining peace in Kashmir. Also in winter 1988-1999 the temperature is  below -20 and it is very difficult to place army on mountains of kargil. So both the countries agreed on terms that no one will place their troops in Winter.

But in the year 1988-1999 Pakistan Armed force send their troops and managed to cross LOC, Also they captured main points of kargil.

The purpose of this was break the link between Kashmir and Ladakh which will cause Indian Army to withdraw their troops from Siachen Glacier. Also it will force India to negotiate a settlement of Kashmir dispute. After a time Indian army found  jihadis who have entered at certain point of LOC and are willing to attack at a higher price. A warning was alerted to jihadis, leave the place or be ready to die.

Hence Government of India responded with Operation Vijay. Approximately 200,000 Indian troops were assigned for this operation. The war was continued till 60 days and officially ended on 26th July 1999. Indian Army won the war and captured all the posts again. 527 soldiers of Indian Armed force lost their lives during the war. So for this event 26th July is celebrated as Kargil Vijay diwas
